Favorite Things... Public Art 2017 by Anne Fitzpatrick

In 2017 we celebrated the change of the seasons with two new facades at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.

The outside of the building has been designed so that a portion of it is given over to a revolving stream of Artists-in-Residence whose work is showcased for six months at a time.

The year began with an installation, I Need a Hero, by Pakistani artist, Ambreen Butt. Inspired by the story of a young Pakistani woman, Butt used this piece to explore the ways women struggle to find and use their own power.

With the approach of spring, Elaine Reichek created Ever Yours, Henry James, composed of fragments from the great American novelist’s letters to his friend Isabella Stewart Gardner.

I am thrilled as we continue these site-specific works for the Museum’s façade.  Looking forward to all that 2018 has in store!
